Distribution area: In the central regions in the Nakhon Nayok, Lop Buri, Saraburi and Chai Nat provinces. In the south east in Prachin Buri, in the north east in Nakhon Ratchasima. In the south up to Amphoe Langsuan in the Chumphon province.
Behaviour/habitat: The Chain Viper inhabits open, dry and grassy areas of the lowlands and the mountains. This snake is not found in damp areas. The Chain Viper is active at night and at dusk. The snake moves slowly and is a stealthy hunter. If threatened, this snake lets out a hiss.
Danger level: These snakes are easily irritated and bite very quickly. The long fangs which penetrate deep into the tissue, together with the strong venom and the aggression of the snake, make it one of the most dangerous venomous snakes in Thailand.
